The Chinese new year festivities continues this week following last week’s new year celebrations. The Dublin Chinese New Year Festival welcomes the Year of the Rooster with a programme of events running from January 28th, through to February?12th. This weekend’s lineup includes a bilingual Pheonix Park bike tour, a guide to western table manners, and Kilkenny and Wicklow day tours among other activities. RTE’s Aine Lawlor will hold a free concert at Liberty Hall Theatre this Sunday, February 5th, at 3pm. The gig is in aid of The Caroline Foundation cancer research trust and includes songs and music from Lisa Lambe, Simon Morgan, the Key Notes, The Line-Up Choir, Phelim Drew and Diarmaid Ferriter (as you’ve never heard him before, apparently). Sweet Republic on Bachelors Walk will hold a masterclass tomorrow for baking beginners and improvers, and this week they will be showing how to create beautifully sparkling unicorn cakes (like the ones above). You will learn how to layer, crumb coat and cover a tall cake in Ice Wise Sugar Paste, basic modelling, how to pipe with buttercream, make swirls and flowers, and basic painting. The class costs €150 and includes all materials to make your cake, rental of the tools to achieve the perfect design and a lovely lunch.
