Watch: Kate Winslet’s Advice To Women Is Inspiring

Watch: Kate Winslet’s Advice To Women Is Inspiring

Kate Winslet is a woman who we have endless admiration for at IMAGE.ie. She is an exemplary talent and despite the fact that she has lived must of her life in the public eye, she remains affable and down-to-earth: she’s all about loving the skin you’re in, promoting body positivity and refuses to be airbrushed for beauty campaigns in order to send the right message to the women who view them.

“I do think we have a responsibility to the younger generation of women,? Winslet said previously. ?I think they do look at magazines, I think they do look to women who have been successful in their chosen careers, and they want people to look up to. And I would always want to be telling the truth about who I am to that generation because they’ve got to have strong leaders.?

Following her BAFTA win for her role in Steve Jobs earlier this week, Winslet took the opportunity to once again advise young women to rebel against the haters and keep striving and working towards your goals – no matter what anyone might say.

Drawing from her own experience, Winslet’made a powerful statement on overcoming self-doubt:

“I often, in a moment like that one, I find myself afterwards thinking I should’ve said something?when I was younger, when I was only 14, I was told by a drama teacher that I might do okay if I was happy to settle for the fat girl parts. Look at me now! Look at me now,” she said.

So what I feel like saying in those moments is, any young woman who has ever been put down by a teacher or a friend or even a parent, just don’t listen to any of it. Because that’s what I did – I didn’t listen, and I kept on going.

?I kept on going, and I overcame my fears and got over my insecurities? I would like to dedicate this prize to all the girls who doubt themselves because you shouldn’t be doubting; you should just be going for it.?

So, keep going. Keep dreaming, keep doing, until you get to where you want to go. Because with self-assurance, determination and hard work, there’s nothing you can’t accomplish.

Put Winslet’s inspiring words on a post-it for your fridge, wall or favourite book and read them whenever you need a boost.
