Irish CMO Margaret Molloy on the skills needed to succeed in marketing

In the run-up to this year’s IMAGE Businesswoman of the Year Awards in the Clayton Hotel, Burlington Road, we’re catching up with some of our past winners. These women are leaders in their individual fields, and they have kindly offered to share with us their top business tips and favourite memories from the night.

Nominate yourself or a friend for the
IMAGE Businesswoman of the Year Awards 2018
HERE.

Margaret Molloy is the global chief marketing officer of Siegel+Gale, an international branding company based in New York City. What’s more, she’s the creator of WearingIrish; a platform that enables people to discover Irish brands and the makers behind them.

Given the amount of expertise and experience under her belt, it’s no surprise Margaret won Overseas Irish Businesswoman of the Year at last year’s ceremony.

For Margaret, it’s all about mission. “I’m committed to working with organizations whose mission I find inspiring,” she tells us. “At Siegel+Gale, we are all about helping brands realise the power of simplicity. At WearingIrish, the focus is on helping Irish designers gain access and exposure to global markets.”

Know the five ‘C’s

If you’re thinking of venturing into the world of marketing, Margaret recommends you get to know the five C’s. They are:

  1. Competence: To command credibility, be an expert in your chosen field.
  2. Confidence: Be confident in your ability to contribute to your industry.
  3. Curiosity: Ask questions to continue to stay relevant.
  4. Courage: Don’t be afraid of setting ambitious goals for yourself. Courage makes everything else possible.
  5. Community: Focus on how you build your network and be mindful of using your talent to give back to your community.
