Janice Dickinson Reveals Cancer Diagnosis

Supermodel Janice Dickinson has opened up about her breast cancer diagnosis. She told the Daily Mail a lump was discovered during a routine medical examination earlier this month, which subsequently tested positive for early-stage breast cancer.

“It’s hard for me to say this, but I have been diagnosed with breast cancer,” Dickinson said. “It’s still quite shocking. Today I got very scared. I just got very scared, and it hit me. But I am not gonna let that define me, the fear. I’m going to get through this; I’ll be just fine kiddo.? You can’t be brave and fierce and all the things that people know you from – reality television, from the fashion industry, from being the world’s first supermodel, from being a judge, from being a writer, a photographer, from being an AIDS activist.”

We’re gonna get there, we’re gonna all get there together. I’m going to tell my truth. I’m doing this for women

Cancer runs in her family – Dickinson’s mother had cancer – but the sixty-one-year-old spoke of the shock she felt when she was told of her diagnosis, adding that she wanted to be as strong as possible for her family and for all women who have had to endure a similar battle. “At that moment, I knew I had to be brave, and I had to be strong.?I had to find the courage I possess as a woman, that we all have as women and then I had to put my chin up and my shoulders back and take it moment by moment.”

She also hopes to offer support to those who need it and hopes that her diagnosis will serve as a reminder to all females to get regular check-ups.?”We’re gonna get there; we’re gonna all get there together. I’m going to tell my truth. I’m doing this for women; I really want for this experience to be for women of all ages,” she said, advising women to “have regular breast examinations, please. Girls past 30 it’s very important.? I’m here for women all over the world; women are to be cherished, mothers, daughters, sisters, you must remind yourselves.”

Dickinson has what’s known as ductal carcinoma in situ, which is localised to the milk duct area, and as a result, she will undergo radiation therapy to target the cancerous cells and take a course of medication and afterwards, chemotherapy will be considered. However, a mastectomy?has been ruled out at this stage, according to her fianc? Rocky Gerner.

Dickinson’s brave, encouraging?words are to be commended, and we wish her well and a speedy recovery.
