Because it is finally February, we can now fully embrace Fifty Shades of Grey fever. The movie hits cinemas February 13th and we may have already booked our tickets. Although, maybe we shouldn’t get too excited about the upcoming release of the erotic movie after Jamie Dornan’s recent interview quotes raised a few concerns among fans of the book.
The Northern Irish actor was speaking to The Sunday Times? Culture magazine and said that his viewings of the film so far haven’t been enjoyable – for himself, mind. He described the process of seeing himself portray the sadomasochistic billionaire Christian Grey for the first time as ?hard to watch? and said,?”I mean, there’s so much going on for the first time, picking apart not only your performance but the film itself.”
The buzz surrounding the adaptation of the best-selling novel is reaching deafening levels. Yesterday saw another trailer revealed at the Super Bowl and a Glamour cover interview with Dornan and his co-star Dakota Johnson is being subjected to scientific analysis.
While many media outlets have pointed out that the co-stars seem to have no chemistry during public appearances, the interview excerpts themselves suggest Dornan and Johnson respect each other enormously.
Director Sam Taylor-Johnson kept all the intense scenes to the end of the filming schedule, so the two actors could build up a level of intimate trust. Jamie admits,
?I’ve never had an on-screen relationship as intense with another actress. We respect and trust each other. We have to be fond of each other for this to work.?
Dakota also points out that Jamie was a gentleman about it all, telling Glamour that when the director called cut on sex scenes, ?Jamie would be the first one to throw a blanket over me.? Although there was one shoot that involved whiplash?
As for taking on the part so Christian, Jamie has described getting into the mindset of Christian Grey as ?a massive challenge? despite the fact his recent acting resum? ‘sick, sick dudes, serial killers?and characters who don’t treat women the way society deems appropriate.? He says that if Christian existed in he would struggle to like him, ?I like how driven Christian is. [Still], I don’t think I would like him if he was a real dude and we met.?
So what do you think? Is Jamie giving off warning signals? Do the two leads secretly hate each other? Or are we reading into all this way too much? Although. this iPad interview the two stars did for Glamour is giving off some awkward vibes.
