Interiors Pinspiration: Love Heart Colour Schemes

Interiors Pinspiration: Love Heart Colour Schemes

This week on Pinterest, we’ve been getting our spring colour cues from an unexpectedly sweet source?

If nothing else, Valentine’s Day is an excellent excuse to eat a shameful amount of sweets (cue hopeless romantics everywhere fainting?in shock and indignation). We’d live in a house made of sweets if we could, but candy-coloured interiors can be difficult to pull off without veering into the excessively childish or, worse, the migraine-inducing.

So although we forecast a flavour for all things berry earlier this month, we didn’t see the Love Hearts look coming. Somewhat unexpectedly, we love it.

An unabashedly pretty palette of’self-assured pastels alongside bright whites, this trend may evoke confectionery, from gleeful Love Hearts through to glamorous Ladur?e macarons, but it also borrows something from?several different paint companies? 2016 colour collections.

The rich ochre tone of Cherished Gold,?Dulux ‘s 2016 Colour of the Year, beautifully?balances the saccharine softness of very pale pinks. (See here for ideas on how to decorate with this surprisingly versatile hue.) A pure neutral like Simply White from the in-demand US brand Benjamin Moore (stocked exclusively by MRCB in Ireland) is equally effective.

Sketch restaurant in London is a Pinterest favourite thanks to its passionate’dedication to proper pink.?Interior designer?India Mahdavi’describes it as “a bit of Beverly Hills in Mayfair” and we really want to go there.

When lifestyle blogger Cassiefairy?accepted a challenge from DFS to style their spring/summer 2016 candy colours trend on a budget, she based her interior around the Zapp three-seater sofa and a selection of accessories in a mouth-watering palette of bubblegum pink, juicy coral,?buttercup lemon and minty aqua.

In a post on the Be Crafty blog, these two waxed and sealed dressers were given a confection-worthy overhaul. One was painted in Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Antibes Green, while the other is?Ballerina Pink by BEHR (Pretty Pink by Dulux is similar).

(The heart-shaped biscuits at the top of this post are by Martha Stewart – get the recipe here.)
