The French seaside goes cinematic for the film festival, cue gala gowns at the Grace of Monaco premiere.

Last night saw the Cannes Film festival kick off in characteristic style with the opening ceremony premiering Grace of Monaco, the Nicole Kidman starring biopic about actress-turned-royal Grace Kelly. Young It Girls of the moment Karlie Kloss and Kendall Jenner sashayed up the red carpet in Valentino and Chanel respectively while Kidman opted for a blue Armani number, not unlike something the Princess herself would have worn. Jane Fonda and Blake Lively showed up how to work burgundy and Chinese star Zhang Ziyi grabbed attention in a somewhat futuristic ensemble.

The Festival de Cannes runs until the end of the month and showcases some of the most anticipated movies of the year and culminates in the Palme d?Or award for the standout film of the festival. This year, the 67th of the festival, Bright Star and The Piano director Jane Campion heads up the Canes Jury. She is the only woman to have won the Palme d?Or and this week commented about inherent sexism in the film industry.
