IMAGE’S Favourite Staycations

The Step House Hotel

Team IMAGE have tried and tested the best breaks (not too far) away this month. Take your pick from our favourite October staycations in the new issue, on shelves now. In the meantime, whet your appetite with one of our favourites ?

The intimate getaway for two

THE DESTINATION The Step House Hotel, Borris, Co Carlow

The Step House Hotel 3

THE BRIEF To seek a quiet escape, just the two of us, away from the hustle and bustle of the city, and yet not a million miles away from Dublin.

The Step House Hotel 6

I FELL IN LOVE WITH The charm of the Cellar Restaurant, with its intimate nooks and crannies and world-class food prepared by head chef Alan Foley. I haven’t eaten this good in months – seriously. The wild venison was out of this world.

The Step House Hotel 4

LITTLE EXTRAS We took part in a workshop just up the road run by Blackstairs Eco Trails’ Robert and Mary White (blackstairsecotrails.ie) to learn the art of picking and cooking wild foods – the wild garlic pesto was so simple and fresh, I vowed to try it at home.

Blackstairs Eco Trials..

THE DETAILS?B&B, from €65 per person, stephousehotel.ie.
