A Day In The Life of Designer Natalie B. Coleman

Irish fashion designer, Natalie?B.?Coleman, is a busy lady. As well as designing her highly coveted pieces beloved by celebs such as Angela Scanlon, she also takes time to lecture at NCAD. Here she talks us through a typical day in her life.

What time do you wake up?

I am an early riser, I get up at about 6am. I love to have some time to myself before the day gets hectic!

What do you eat for breakfast?

I try to juice but I’m not always very good on that front. I like to have natural yoghurt with nuts and sometimes oranges. I try to keep it clean and light, although I do eat an unhealthy amount of sausages!

What does a typical day entail?

I am lecturing in the fashion department in NCAD, Dublin, a few days a week and then I have my studio, so every day varies. Normally I catch up on emails before I head to the studio. We are working on AW16 at the moment, so either fittings, hand stitching, working with the team, doing an interview. From time to time I have a quick trip to Porto or London. It is always really busy this time of year. We are also working on some exciting collaborations for 2016, so it is a really fun time for the label.

What do you eat for lunch?

Soup, usually followed by hot chocolate. ?The canteen in NCAD is so good, they have a lovely kitchen garden with super fresh ingredients so the choice is great.

What’s your pick me up??

I am a coffee fiend but trying to cut down, though I do want an espresso machine for Christmas so maybe not!

How do you switch off?

When I am with my puppy, Lucky, a gorgeous little Labradoodle who is my baby. I only have her a few months but am so in love. I also love Spa days, especially at the Shelbourne this time of year as a wind down to Christmas treat. I love the relaxation room overlooking the green. My other guaranteed ways to wind down are mixing good wine, good food and good friends and making up really bad dance routines!

What do you do in the evenings?

At the moment twice a week I go to pregnancy yoga or pilates at Well Being on Dame St which I’m finding so good for my head. I also love to read cookery books and chill out watching Netflix on my Surface Pro 4 in bed where I can catch up on research and work emails.

Which apps do you use the most?

I love Instagram and have lost hours on Pinterest. I also love using the Fresh Paint app on my Surface – it’s great for sketching on the go and is perfect for saving design ideas and sharing with the team in the studio/production while I’m on the go.
