Warming up these unbelievably cold February days is Cork’s newest public arts festival named Quarter Block Party. Taking over the North and South Main Streets of the city from the 6th til the 8th of the month, this Block Party will play host to everything from guaranteed-Irish music acts to internationally-based theatre shows, art and speeches. ?The Southern Hospitality Board, who have already put on successful shows with the likes of the ever popular Girl Band and Amen Dunes, have taken care of the Block Party’s music programme so we’re sure to be in good hands.
The weekend will launch in Cork’s oldest quarter with acts throughout the three days as varied as Bex Bix’s (of Meltybrains?) electronica, to Cian Nugent’s folksy psychedelic guitar. Jim Carroll of The Irish Times will also be speaking to Cork musician Gavin Dunne about breaking into the music scene using social media’s influence. Conflicted Theatre Cork and Eat My Noise Productions will be collaborating to bring us some chaos, neon lights and experimentation. If all that is too much for you, stroll along to one of the many pop up events taking place in various shops such as the Bangers and Crash Percussion Group, who will be creating music solely with the use of their hands and a table.
Tickets to the Quarter Block Party Festival this weekend are priced at €30 + booking fee (weekend pass), €15 + booking fee (one-day pass) and are available now via Eventbrite. Grab your scarves and hats and head on down to Cork, this festival is sure to get the positive vibes flowing.
