#ShopIrish Spotlight: Louis Copeland, Ireland’s most luxurious menswear retailer, talks shop

Supporting Irish business is a passion of ours at Image, and it’s easy with so many entrepreneurial and innovative Irish businesses to buy from. From now until Christmas we are highlighting Irish businesses or business people that we are excited about. Today it’s luxurious outfitters, Louis Copeland.

What is your name, and what is your business?
Louis Copeland. Louis Copeland & Sons. Luxury Menswear.

What has your mission been from the outset?
We have been in business since 1933. We have always striven to deliver great quality products, great service and help Irish men dress better.

Of what part of your business are you proudest?
How we treat our customers. From someone buying a gift for their loved one right up to looking after a groom on his wedding day. The trust our customers have in us makes us very proud.

Who is your hero?
Fergal Quinn.

How have you found the last six months?
Life changing and challenging. It really makes you evaluate your business and professional life. It forces you to change and look at the business from a different perspective. It has allowed me to have more time at home with my family.

What keeps you positive?
New ways of doing business and being there for our customers e.g. through Zoom, over the phone and online. We recently launched an online styling service which has become really popular with our clients.

What new perspective have you gained from 2020?
To appreciate the simple things in life and to value what’s really important.

Best/worst moment from 2020?
Having to temporarily close the stores. Seeing businesses adapt and continue to trade during the second lock-down and the response from everyone to shop local and support Irish.

How will you celebrate Christmas this year?
With close family.

Another Irish business you want to shine a spotlight on?
Jennys Boutique in Ashbourne.
