Watch: The Secret To Looking Picture-Perfect In Your Photographs? Squinching

Have you ever been looking at your favourite celebrity strutting on the red carpet, and wondered, ?God, how on earth do they manage to look so photogenic?? In the era of flawless, filtered photos that we now live, any hack that’s going to improve your look in a picture, be it Contouring, Baking or Multi-Masking is inevitably going to drum up some interest.

Enter the latest trick that everyone’s getting behind, known as ?Squinching.?

And, just what is Squinching I hear you ask? This basically involves narrowing the eyes by tightening your lower eyelid and letting the top lid drop down just a fraction, according to Marie Claire. This definition comes thanks to portrait photographer and squinching pioneer Peter Hurley, who recently decided to re-examine the trend, after it apparently had an initial heyday in 2013. Hurley believes that squinching is the easiest, most effective way to convey confidence and add definition to the face. He insists that it’s a technique executed by supermodels and celebrities alike, when they have big events or photographs to pose for.

Once you’ve heard about this, you can’t help but notice it in a lot of celebrity snaps. Just look at these pictures of Karlie Kloss. Yes, she’s blessed with incredible bone structure and is naturally extremely photogenic to begin with, but here she is before the squinch starts (you’ll notice her eyes are significantly wider):

And here she is mid-squinch:

Peter Hurley even has a how-to YouTube video on his squinching technique, which has gained over a million views. You can watch it for yourself below:

What do you think? Do you think this really makes a difference, or is it all just hype?
