Three for Tuesday: Nourishing products to soothe sun-damaged lips

Whether you've accidentally sun-burned your lips or you are having some off-season chapping, these three incredible lip balms will soothe and soften until you've got the pout you know and love back...

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Finding the right lip balm can be pretty much equated to finding the right life partner. They need to suit your needs, they need to tick off a hefty list of requirements, they need to know you for who you really are. Okay I'm being exceptionally dramatic here - a lip product is a lip product - but when it comes to picking them, I really ask for a lot.

How to find 'The One'

Finding one with both occlusive ingredients, which create a barrier on the skin to prevent moisture loss (petrolatum, silicone, squalene, lanolin, shea butter) and also a humectant like hyaluronic acid or glycerin (which pull water into the skin like a sponge) is key for me. I need them to feel both protected but also infused with goodness.

The three below are ones I always go back to for support if I'm having a tough time of it, lip-wise.

Kiehl's Buttermask For Lips

€25 from Debenhams.ie

This is the DREAM when left on overnight, as intended. You wake up and your lips don't feel parched at all. I find this is very rich for day time, but if you're really struggling with lip dryness or sun-damage, you might need something of its strength even during the day.

La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume Lips

€7.45 from LookFantastic.com

Anything by La Roche-Posay feels like a safe port in skincare storm to me, and I love the entire Cicaplast range. I use this balm on my lips, but have also been known to use it on dry elbows, as a cuticle cream and in dire straits, even as an eye balm. Don't tell on me, okay?

Weleda Nipple Balm

€10.49 from Boots

Bear with me here - I know, it's a nipple balm. But Dawn Hill, facialist extraordinaire at Floraison.ie, SWEARS by it for soft, supple lips. She is the owner of a pair of always-perfect lips, so I trust her on it completely.
