The best hair products to get bounce, body and shine according to lead stylist Alex Keville

Alex Keville is the first stylist to join the R+Co Collective in Ireland. She took time out of her busy schedule to tell IMAGE readers what her favourite haircare products are. 

It’s not everyday we get insider tips from a stylist to the stars. So when R+Co gave us the opportunity to chat with Alex Keville – the first stylist to join the R+Co Irish Collective – we jumped at the chance.

Having styled some of the world’s top supermodels – who are known for their luscious locks – like Helena Christensen, Jodie Kidd, and our own Vogue Williams, we trust Alex to bring the goods!

The salon owner will be bringing the R+Co ethos to salons nationwide in Ireland, teaching and demonstrating how to really immerse yourself in the R+Co experience, because, after all, fabulous hair shouldn’t just be for the party season!

Here are Alex’s top hair tips from everyday glam, to night-time sultry.

Day time

“My four all-time favourites – two of which I use for the best daytime looks – are High Dive Moisture + Shine Crème, Dallas Thickening Spray, Death Valley Dry Shampoo, and Park Ave Blow Out Balm,” says Alex.

“I use High Dive to add moisture and shine during the day. I recommend working some High Hive Crème through towel-dried hair, and dry as desired. It moisturises, softens and drowns out frizz,” she says. High Dive Moisture + Shine Crème also doubles as a leave-in conditioner, so you’re getting two products for the price of one.

“Dallas Thickening Spray is the ultimate product for a mega blow dry,” says Alex. “Not only does it give fantastic volume to the roots, it controls the ends and allows for beautiful body and shine.” Alex recommends spraying it onto towel-dried hair, then blow dry your hair in sections, or style as usual and feel the difference.

“Death Valley Dry Shampoo is your best friend!” says Alex. “It’s perfect for maintaining a gorgeous blowdry on day two. It freshens up the roots, while also adding volume and body to the hair. It also creates great texture throughout the hair. It’s the quickest way to liven up any lifeless hair in seconds.” Alex recommends spraying onto your roots from 10 inches away, and combing through.

Alex’s final daytime recommendation is Park Ave Blow Out Balm, which she says is “ideal for those of us who simply cannot bear to leave the house with anything less than a perfect blow dry”. This product coats the hair to protect it and contains light hold for little body, while controlling frizz and keeping your hair smooth all day. Alex recommends working through damp hair and blow drying as normal.

Night time

For glam night-time looks, Alex chooses Mannequin Styling Paste, Vicious Strong Hold Flexible Hairspray and Grid Structural Hold Setting Spray.

For Mannequin, Alex recommends “flipping your hair upside down and running through with your fingers. Do not brush out”. This creates a sexy, messy and matte finish. Mannequin is a natural-looking styling paste for volume, flexibility and shape. It perfects that ‘just rolled out of bed’ look.

“Vicious Strong Hold Flexible Hairspray is the ultimate way to hold a finished look,” says Alex. “You can brush through it without cracking or flaking, so you can style and restyle all night long.” Alex recommends spraying Grid Structural Hold Setting Spray evenly on damp hair, then blow dry. It lasts for 24 hours.

Grid has built-in 450º heat protection. For the most-structured results, use the spray only when styling with heat.

Alex owns four salons across Ireland with her husband Alan. She is an award-winning hair stylist with a wealth of experience, who has been working on her signature style since she was 16.
