How to perfect minimal make-up for Zoom calls

The expert guide to five minute make-up for video calls

Make-up artist Zoë Taylor is a London-based make-up artist. She has her own vegan lip care beauty brand Tinker Taylor, is a Chanel beauty ambassador and has partnered with the biggest names in beauty and fashion and worked on covers of every magazine from Vogue to GQ.

Here she shares how to do the least amount of make-up for video calling, with the best results.

Step 1: Prep the skin

“It is always all about the skin, and with the advice to stay home, sometimes your skin can suffer,” says  Zoë. Begin with a mask, she advises, and use a lightweight moisturiser. “I am loving using a mask to start my make-up off with as a bit of self-care to start my day. I apply and sit back for ten minutes. Choosing the correct moisturiser is so important for a flawless finish on your make-up, something light but with ongoing benefits is great.”

Step 2: Go light on coverage

Don’t overdo the coverage, you just need a tint, says Zoë. “Warm-up your skin with Chanel Les Beiges Water Fresh Tint, €60, which is the perfect veil of colour and the texture is gorgeously dewy and fresh. Only use concealer where you really need extra coverage, apply lightly and pat into skin using the tips of your fingers.”

Step 3: Rely on small details

To keep your face from looking flat, there are some little details to rely on, says  Zoë. “Mascara is a must, even if you don’t want a full eye look. I would also add a warm brown or gunmetal grey eyeliner, just along the tear line for extra definition. The Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Bronzing Cream is amazing at adding shape and colour without it looking overdone. Try using this cream bronzer as you would a blusher.”

Step 4: Don’t forget the lips!

The last step is to keep your lips looking healthy. “I always prep lips with a lip scrub to buff off any skin, lip oil for instant hydration and then a lip balm for perfectly hydrated and smooth lips. I find this makes any lip colour put on afterwards last much longer.”
