Why now is the time to embrace shorter nails (and some inspiration for them)

Shorter nails, more manageable manis? With trips to the salon on lockdown, and rightly so, short nails might be the best (and healthiest) option...

There are many of us that are, right now, lamenting the inevitable loss of our long nails – be they natural or gel or acrylic – due to the fact that we can't attend our normal appointments.

I've recently cut down my usually long, almond-shaped nails and now I'm embracing short and square. On the advice of the professionals at the place I get my nails done, I didn't try to maintain my own length from home.

I took my buffer, my file and my clippers and took about a centimetre off each nail. It hurt (my soul, not my fingers). But I did it and now I'm able to better maintain my own nails without the help of professionals.

Why to go short:

  • Shorter nails are easier to maintain
  • A dramatic break won't happen, no stressing over uneven nails
  • Shorter nails are easier to paint yourself
  • Cutting your nails will make them stronger when eventually they grow again

Nailing it

And here are some more short manicure inspiration pictures in case you want to do some polish experimentation...
