Updating your ‘do? These are the leading hair trends of SS18

Updating your ‘do? These are the leading hair trends of SS18

Looking for a new ‘do but not quite sure what to go for? We asked four of Ireland’s most talented hairdressers (and nominees in this year’s IMAGE Business of Beauty Awards) about what hairstyles are trending this SS18. Some of the looks are ones we’ve rocked for years, others are more adventurous and require a bit more upkeep. Either way, stay on trend this spring with some of these leading styles.

“The biggest trend coming through for spring/summer 2018 is bangs. It’s going to be the year of bangs – from the curtain fringe (think the early 2000s, soft, long, side-swept bangs that work for every texture and length), to blunt and choppy bangs (like Rosie Huntington Whiteley and Gigi Hadid). Textured bangs are so versatile and frame the face so well. They are also a great way to add interest to a simple up-do. Just remember they require a little bit of work, including regular fringe trims to keep your bangs looking in pristine condition.”

“I think straight, sleek hair is here to stay. Lately, my clients have been investing in their hair, from the absolute lifesaver of L’Oréal Smartbond to in-salon treatments like Kerastase Chronologiste. They’re really looking for that healthy shine, so showing it off with a nice, sleek blow-dry is a must. Also, effortless fly-aways have been a regular on the catwalk this year and, coming closer to summer, waves will definitely be requested. You then have the timeless plaits, whether they’re added to a curly or straight blow-dry (or even to an up-do) they are here to stay for summer – especially around festival time.”

“Head scarves are going to be huge this SS18. Using silk scarves to plait into the hair can add colour and vibrancy to any hair-do. Bobs with fringes is another one seen in a lot on the catwalks this season. Hairstylist Jen Atkins is a brilliant example of how this look can be styled.”

“The boho beach wave is definitely going to be in this year as there are so many variations of it – not to mention how easy it is to achieve! Every girl loves textured hair these days, and it also allows us to get more time out of a blow-dry. The messier it gets the sexier it gets.”
