Matte lipsticks are practical, long-lasting and really easy to wear. But let's be honest, they can be quite drying on your lips. I've tried and tested the following four to see would my lips get parched...
The brilliant budget one
This one has a great shade range, is very well priced and dries down to a super matte finish that never looks or feels parched or chalky. There's a sharpener in the lid which means you can always keep the precision going. The method I've found best for application is line first, then fill. It lasts ages that way.
Maybelline Ink Crayon
The most hydrating one
There's nothing but pleasure to be derived from wearing this one from Estée Lauder. The colour payoff is immediate and powerful so there's no dragging of natural oils around the lips, and it stays feeling moist for hours. The bullet is a great shape for application and the magnetic lid is a luxe feature I didn't realise I loved until I tried it.
Estée Lauder Pure Color Envy Sheer Matte Sculpting Lipstick
The longest lasting one
Stila were not messing around with this formulation. Stay All Day stays. All. Day. The darker shades actually prove quite difficult to remove, but a good oil cleanser will do it. This is the one to wear to a wedding or all night sort of occasion, where top ups will be few and far between and you don't want your lipstick to transfer onto every glass.
Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick
The most wearable one
Pillow Talk in particular is the most wearable shade of Charlotte Tilbury's Matte Revolution range, and - fun fact - one of the range is sold every two minutes worldwide. There are lots of fans, with good reason. I love this one because the angled tip makes precise on-the-go application really easy.
