Festival Beauty Musts

Festival Beauty Musts

What you need to take on the elements and after-parties…

Young hearts may run free, but they still stress about how their hair and face looks. Festivals are meant to be modern sites of licentious freedom. Dancing until the dawn, pitching tents in communion with the rest of the carpool, all those photographs? We line up the must dos when it comes to festival season beauty and get our beauty bags ready for the upcoming?Groove Festival in Bray next month.

Hair
Dry shampoo is on the same part of the sensible festival scale as cereal bars – very. This year we’re packing?Garnier Ultimate Blends Dry Shampoo, which at €5.49 is a steal. This product promises no visible residue and absorbs greasiness from the roots. We’re also lining up?Redken’s Pillow Proof Blow Dry Two Day Extender?for some much needed texture when that perfectly coifed and floral bedecked style loses it charm after all that hiking across genteel farms in search of the proper ticket entrance.
As regards styling we always look to hair braid goddess Emma Watson for inspiration. Whether its appropriating the Katniss braid or jumbling an assortment of plaits into an upstyle – bobby clips are the last thing you buy on the pre-lift Penney’s jaunt – Miss Watson has it sorted.

Feet
You shall buy a pair of Doc Martens and you shall fell smug when you see the people who decided to wear now-bedraggled trainers.

Face on
Lip crayons are your friend when you’re feeling like frolicking in the forest. Forget the liner. We’re enjoying all of Sharon Osbourne’s ultra-moisturising?Patentpolish pencils for MAC – as she says in our interview you don’t need the mirror. When in doubt?Chubby Stick it with Clinique. Revlon’s matte crayons have us feeling very adventurous. We especially love the Colourburst range and the tangy Audacious shade. If you can’t wear matte orange at a music festival there is nothing stopping you wearing it another time, we just think it’d be playful to work some tangerine lips in the sun.

Face off
We like to keep things natural when it comes to skincare at festivals. Maybe it is because you’re in a tent, sleeping under the stars and communing with nature. Maybe it’s because you should try keeping something chemical free. Either way festivals can really work your skin over. Cara Delevingne?swears by natural products during hectic fashion weeks so when the going get tough slather your face in the best nature has to offer.
Cult favourite Egyptian Magic All Purpose Skin Cream maintains to be ?a secret of the great sages, mystics, magicians and healers?. We don’t know what that really means but the ingredients list pleases our inner hippy. Olive oil, beeswax, honey, bee pollen, royal jelly and beehive residue means your face gets a totally blissful going over. (Egyptian Magic is available to buy in Avoca)
Face wipes? We’re thinking some?cucumber wipes from Yes To Carrots. Sweet dreams are made of grime free accomplishments.
Micellar waters are the best way to get that deep clean feeling when on the road. Apparently Parisian girls drown in the stuff with La Roche-Posay – one of the overall brand winners at our Beauty Awards in April – and Bioderma conquering the market. Pour some micellar water on a cotton pad to sweep away all those impurities you gathered while raving and debating late night chips. Remember, if it’s good enough for catwalk models chances are it’s good enough for you.
