Eye-Opening Tips To Help You Create The Perfect Lashes

Christoph McCormack shares his eye-opening tips for mastering exaggerated lashes.

WHEN IT COMES TO LASHES, IS BIG ALWAYS BETTER?

Bigger can be better if your eye shape allows. If you have big eyes with a high brow bone, then bigger will complement the shape of your eye, but you must consider how natural and manageable it can be. The smaller the eye area, the more fake and obvious the lashes will look.

WHAT ABOUT THE EFFECT OF CURL, VOLUME AND CONDITION?

Lash extensions come in up to five different curls. The most popular being B, C, and D. I use silk C curl lashes, as they’re natural enough to look like your own, but curly enough to define the lash line.

WHAT CAN BE DONE WITH OUR OWN LASHES TO GET THEM IN THEIR BEST CONDITION AND SHAPE?

Mascara is a beauty staple, but it can dry out the natural oils that lashes need to remain healthy and last longer, not to mention the make-up remover and elbow grease needed to get it off. There are many serums on the market that promote healthier, longer lasting, natural lashes.

IS THERE SUCH A THING AS THE PERFECT MASCARA?

There are so many to choose from and a lot made of exactly the same ingredients. All that sets them apart from one another is the wand. Finding the one that suits you is a matter of trial and error.

HOW LONG DOES A MASCARA REALLY LAST?

Four to six weeks if you are using it daily. The vial can harbour bacteria, and once it’s dried out, it will begin to dry too quick and leave mascara rubble on your cheek bones.

HOW CAN WE NAIL THE PERFECT NATURAL CURL?

A lash lift is a really nice way to complete your natural curl. Yumi Lashes and LVL are two brands to look out for. Lash curlers just do more damage than good, so put it down and step away.

WITH FALSIES, WHAT SHAPES OR STYLES SHOULD WE GO FOR?

If you can master the application, the Ardell range is gorgeous, and easy to put on; and MAC always has a set for the more dramatic effect. Allow the adhesive 30-60 seconds to warm and dry on the back of the hand. The adhesive becomes rubbery and more manageable to apply onto the lash line. I use Duo glue, €6.49.

HOW CAN WE GET THE MOST OUT OF SEMI-PERMANENT LASHES?

They’ll last up to four to six weeks with the correct cleanser and conditioner, but to keep them pristine, take a trip to your artist once a month for a refill to help maintain the look. Don’t use mascara. Eyeliner is okay, but you should have the correct cleanser.

I use my own Eyelash and Brow Cleanser for all my clients. Don’t pull on extensions, and keep them brushed out – once a day is sufficient. Like any kind of extension work, there will be minimal wear down of the natural lashes. I recommend a break of four to six weeks once or twice a year to help the natural re-growth.

WHO ROCKS THE BEST LASHES?

Kim Kardashian rocks a big look, but it suits her, as she has a high brow bone. Megan Fox is more a winged look, but very smouldering. Mila Kunis wears a natural volume look, which is very pretty.
