The €7.99 texture spray that beats its high end rivals

Writing about beauty for a living means I have become rather fickle about which products Aisling Keenan sticks to.

If I do find something legitimately incredible, I will love it and rave about it and bulk buy it just in case. One thing I have (until recently) been very convinced of, however, is that you have to go mid-range to expensive to get a decent texture spray for your hair. I'm not 100% sure what formed that thought, but it existed nonetheless.

I LOVED Ouai's texturizing spray when it first came out - the sleek, silver packaging, the smell, the way it gave flexible hold but didn't look stiff or leave your hair tacky. I was into it in a big way, and hey, it's still an incredible product.

I then fell deeply in love with the Moroccanoil version - again, up around the €20 mark so not cheap. I really didn't like the Moroccanoil dry shampoo so my nerves were gone buying the texture spray, but it came highly recommended. I was not disappointed, thankfully. It gave great texture, smelled lovely, didn't leave a residue and washed and brushed out of my hair just fine.

Moroccanoil Dry Texture Spray, €21.45

I ran out. Of both Ouai and Moroccanoil. And being the absolute brand snob that I clearly became (and have been rowing back on vigorously ever since I realised) I had previously scoffed at a couple of 'drugstore' (pharmacy, chemist - what's a drugstore when it's at home?!) brands in favour of the pricier, more prestigious brands. One of the ones I'd overlooked was sitting in my hair products drawer and I reached for it out of hair desperation. And let me tell you. It absolutely blew every other dry texture spray I'd tried out of the water.

It's the unassuming but bright and beaming L'Oréal Paris Stylista The Big Hair Spray. And it's just €7.99.

Reader, it gave me body. It gave me hold. It gave me hair that I could both manoeuvre and style while knowing it'd stay put. I was so pleasantly surprised I could've kissed the bottle (I didn't). But it certainly showed me! Never dismiss a cheap-as-chips alternative out of hand - it might just be what you've been looking for all along.
