My day in beauty with Maya Jama: ‘I’m a flexitarian with my face…’

My day in beauty with Maya Jama: ‘I’m a flexitarian with my face…’

I caught up with British TV and radio presenter Maya Jama while she was living it up at Coachella recently, and quizzed her on exactly what her beauty routine is…

“I’m a flexitarian with my face – sometimes I am really into it, but sometimes I’m super lazy,” Maya told me. “Whenever I fly though I always use a full face sheet mask to keep my skin hydrated! Elemis is my favourite skincare brand. My day to day routine though is quite basic – I use a Dove soap and water to wash my face every morning.”

“With my hair, I always wear it the same way on a day to day basis. My go to is a dead straight sleek look with a side parting – I loved being able to experiment with my styles at Coachella. My favourite look from the weekend was the day three disco mermaid waves. The ghd creative artist Patrick Wilson created the S-bend using the ghd Platinum+ Festival Styler. It’s such a cool technique.”

Maya’s skincare picks

Soap: On a daily basis I use Dove soap and water to wash my face. It works a treat!
Cleanser: I love Elemis cleaners
Moisturiser: Philosophy Purity Ultra Light Moisturise to help soothe tired and dry skin
Serum: I don’t really use serum and instead use the Rodial Dragon Blood Eye Masks
Mask: I like the Kiehl’s Turmeric & Cranberry Seed Masque – face masks solve everything. This is a brightening one, and as soon as you take it off you feel fresh-faced

Rodial Dragon’s Blood Eye Masks, €6 each

Maya’s top skincare tip

“Change your pillow case sheets often and try silk pillow cases to protect your skin and hair where possible.”

Maya’s make-up picks

Powder: Laura Mercier Powder, because it stops you from looking sweaty while in the hot desert and gives you a great glow
Concealer: MAC Concealer, because I don’t like wearing heavy make-up and it does exactly what foundation does, but less heavy
Highlighter: Fenty Beauty Highlighter
Lip Liner: MAC lip Liner, they have great long lasting colour over a long festival day
Mascara: Maybelline mascaras. They give a great false lash look effect without having to wear fake lashes

Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Powder, €42

Maya’s top make-up tip

“Reuse your fake lashes. Don’t just wear them once. I love Eylure 117 fake lashes – I only wear them for big events and not day to day though usually.”

Maya’s hair picks

Styler: ghd Platinum+ Styler, because it enables me to style my hair, but ensure its still super shiny
Serum: I love Kerastase serum for my ends
And I really want to try Olaplex too to keep my hair soft and nourished
Heat protector: ghd Heat Protect is my go to ahead of blowdrying or styling
Shampoo/conditioner: Aussie is my fave for shampoo and conditioner, and I love using leave-in treatments overnight too

ghd Platinum+ Festival Styler, €225

Maya’s top hair tip

A good hairdryer! I use the ghd Air Festival Collection Dryer. It’s great for drying my hair quickly and smoothly and without damaging it, before styling.
