My day in beauty: Alison Curtis on the only item she will splurge on

My day in beauty: Alison Curtis on the only item she will splurge on

Today FM’s Alison Curtis is a beacon of loveliness. Her much-loved weekend morning radio shows have a loyal listenership, and she’s also an ambassador for Barnardos children’s charity. Her selections, below, show her ‘skincare first’ approach to beauty.

“I am much more focused on skin care than on the makeup side of things. So I would double wash in the morning, then double serum too! Just to be sure then put on my SPF moisturiser before makeup. At night I would again double cleanse and use a heavier serum and a night cream. In the winter I would finish it all off with an oil as well as my skin can get so dry. I would always, always have lip balms in my handbag, and numerous places around the house too!”

ALISON’S SKIN PICKS

Cleanser: I would use either the Image Vitamin C cleanser or Kinvara Absolute Oil cleanser.
Toner: I have used a lot of the Pixi Glow Hyaluronic Toner lately and find it really good and not too drying.
Moisturiser: During the day I would use Image SPF 30 daily moisturiser and at night I often use Image Ageless Retinol night cream.
Serum: I have started using the Hyalu B5 Hyaluronic Acid Serum along with Image Vitamin C serum together they feel great.
Eye cream: Kinvara has a lovely roll-on eye cream but it isn’t part of my daily routine
Mask: Lately when I think of it I use Image Skincare Biomolecular Hydrating Recovery Mask which I buy on SkinShop.ie.
Hand cream: I’ve just started using Kinvara Omega-Rich hand and nail cream, it’s amazing.

Kinvara Absolute Cleansing Oil, €22.95

Image Skincare Ageless Retinol Overnight Masque, €89

ALISON’S SKINCARE TIP:

“My top tip is to keep moisturised, and I think serums are better at this than moisturisers now. I don’t spend on makeup that often but will splurge on a good serum.”

ALISON’S MAKEUP PICKS

Foundation: I have used Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua for years now. I haven’t really experimented with other brands on this front!
Mascara: I am not loyal when it comes to mascaras, I flip between Benefit, Lancome and Charlotte Tilbury.
Palette/eyeshadow: I LOVE the Charlotte Tilbury Instant Look in a palette, natural beauty. I use everything in it, the eyeshadow, the blusher, the bronzer. I am on my second one!

Charlotte Tilbury Instant Look In A Palette, €69

ALISON’S HAIR PICKS

Shampoo: I have to wash my hair most days if not every day so lately I have been loving the Kevin Murphy balancing wash and conditioner
Texture spray: Anything that says sea salt to give my fine hair some life! I use mostly the Bumble and Bumble ones.
Brushes: I have a lovely wooden Aveda paddle brush that does the trick.

Kevin Murphy Balancing.Wash, €23
