The correct way to apply sunscreen and the best ones to buy

Soaring temperatures shouldn’t be the only reason you’re reaching for the sunscreen. Rain or shine, HOLLY O’NEILL finds the sunscreens to suit all skin types and lifestyles, and enough  evidence to get you using it every day.

Six steps to the perfect SPF application…

Apply your sunscreen in soft and gentle strokes and don’t forget to rub in the spray-on ones.

Reapply your sunscreen every two hours.

Use a chestnut size of product per limb.

Wait 15 minutes before going into the sun.

Water resistance is a must,
so as not to dilute the protection. To be safe, do not apply your sunscreen on wet skin.

Start with a broad spectrum 50+ initially. If you must, reduce your SPF after the first
few days of sun exposure.
