5 of the best foundations for winter

5 of the best foundations for winter

With the change of seasons comes the overhaul we make to our daily routines; I strive for anything that promises comfort, be it cosy cashmere jumpers or my foundation emphasising the good parts and covering the bad. I don’t have skin that ever looks ‘dewy’ (even in summer) so my base has always been important, in that I want one that covers more. It forms a part of my armour, that need for a more robust, matte layer, partly because the light changes, mostly because I feel it suits my skin this time of year. But, don’t fear; matte foundations aren’t what they used to be thanks to the vast advancing of technology, they are more light-weight, less mask-like.

Bobbi Brown Skin Longwear Weightless Foundation (€38) a last-season cover that still remains a favourite, even a light layer evens the skin wonderfully and should you opt for a fuller coverage, it doesn’t feel or look heavy at all.

Rimmel Lasting Finish Breathable Foundation (€10.99) is perfect for those that want the feel of a matte with a dewy finish. Lightweight, but long-wearing, you can build coverage and it won’t look heavy.  They’ve expanded the range to include 30 shades so even the fairest of skin will find a colour match.

Chanel Aqua Vitalumiere (€45) is an ultra-light, water-based fluid that glides onto the skin and doesn’t skin into any pores or fine lines. It’s ideal for combatting the harsher conditions your skin will be subjected to as it won’t stick to any dry parts. It leaves a beautiful finish and they’ve just added new shades to the range, too.

Bobbi Brown Foundation Stick (€35) is the only foundation stick I’ll repeatedly buy. It’s technically a matte, but has a velvety texture, which offers a natural-looking finish and can be easily blended so you can go for a light or fuller coverage really easily.  A perfect on-the-go foundation.

Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation (€33) is a comfortable formula is oil-free, making it suitable for shine-prone skin types, and it’s incredibly long-wearing, despite a texture that’s light as a feather. It glides beautifully and seamlessly onto the skin, creating a smooth matte finish that looks incredibly natural. With 40 shades to choose from, there’s no way you won’t find a match for your pale, Celtic skin and beyond.
