There were tears at Dublin Airport as an Irish-Palestinian widower was reunited with his two young children. A group of Irish citizens arrived at Dublin Airport from Cairo yesterday evening after efforts to ensure Irish citizens were allowed to exit the Gaza Strip through the Rafah crossing. As father Khalid El Estal dropped to his knees to embrace his son Ali as he walked through arrivals, a crowd of supporters waved Palestinian flags and chanted “free, free Palestine”.

New research on the spread of online misinformation and disinformation in Ireland has revealed that the influence of the far-right is growing. The study by the Institute for Strategic Dialogue (ISD) also shows that tech companies are failing to enforce community guidelines to curb the spread of false, misleading and harmful content on social media platforms.

Workers who lose their jobs will get pay-related benefits for up to nine months after they become unemployed, under a plan being brought to the Cabinet. A revised version of the significant reform of the welfare system will introduce a graduated system of payments to support workers who suddenly become unemployed. But it will also seek to encourage them to return to work.

And the richest 10% are responsible for over a quarter (27%) of our carbon emissions, according to Oxfam Ireland, which today published a report which said that the carbon emissions of the super-rich across the world are putting the planet at greater risk from climate change.

Hamas-run health ministry says Israeli strike on Gaza hospital kills 12
The Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza says an Israeli air strike on a hospital has killed at least 12 people. Israel has not commented, but says it’s attacking “terrorists” and “terrorist infrastructure” in the Gaza Strip. The hospital blast came after the UN human rights chief said Gaza had suffered a “horrendous” 48 hours. Volker Turk said the “killings” of people in UN shelters was “wholly inconsistent with protection of civilians required under international law”.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman in her 20s died in West Yorkshire. Police found her badly injured at a property in Dearnley Street in the Ravensthorpe area of Dewsbury at 6.43pm on Sunday.
