RTÉ additional payments
A second Grant Thornton Report has confirmed that no other RTÉ stars benefited from additional commercial payments. New director general Kevin Bakhurst will lead his team into the Dáil Public Accounts Committee (PAC) today, where it will be confirmed that the first instalment of the second Grant Thornton Report has found Ryan Tubridy was the only person to receive additional pay.
xAI
Elon Mush has starting to talk about the artificial intelligence company he founded to compete with ChatGPT-maker OpenAI. The goal of the startup, xAI, “is to understand the true nature of the universe”. Led by Musk, the billionaire chief executive of Tesla and SpaceX who also owns Twitter, the new startup centred in the San Francisco Bay Area has hired a group of top AI researchers who formerly worked at OpenAI, Google, Microsoft and Tesla.
Huw Edwards
The BBC has reported that new claims from staff against the 61-year-old presenter Huw Edwards, who was revealed to be the star facing allegations over payments for sexually explicit images. Coming from one current and one former member of staff, they allege they had received “inappropriate messages” from Mr Edwards, “some late at night and signed off with kisses”. Both said there was “a reluctance among junior staff to complain to managers about the conduct of high-profile colleagues in case it adversely affected their careers.”
Clare cliff fall
Tributes have been paid to noted traditional musician Darren Richmond, who died after falling off a cliff in Co Clare on Wednesday afternoon. A native of Lancaster in England that had been living in Ennis for a number of years, Mr Richmond was a noted singer, musician and song collector and was well-known on the traditional music circuit. Locals described Mr Richmond as “a lovely man”.
