Around 50 Irish citizens among those evacuated from Sudan in Spanish operation
Around 50 Irish citizens have been evacuated from Sudan so far, Tánaiste Micheál Martin has said. Irish citizens were among those evacuated from Sudan in a Spanish operation on Sunday night as efforts to evacuate diplomats and their dependents from Khartoum intensified. Speaking on RTÉ’s Morning Ireland, Mr Martin said those evacuations were performed by France and Spain, who he thanked for a “remarkable” job. Mr Martin added that around 150 citizens had registered, adding that the situation was fluid.

Hiring by Galway firms is being hindered by housing crisis, chamber survey finds
The lack of accommodation is hindering the ability of four out of every five businesses in Galway to hire staff. That rises to nine out of every ten businesses in the tech sector, a new survey by Galway Chamber of Commerce found. But the research also found the issues are impacting the ability of firms in the county to hold on to staff, with 70% reporting retention issues due to housing. As a consequence, seven in every ten of the 200 member firms who took part in the survey said they had reduced hiring targets over the next year.

Illegally evicted mum had car burnt out and belongings ‘destroyed’ and dumped in a shed
A tenant who was illegally evicted from her rental home had her car burnt out, all her belongings thrown into a shed and the gardaí had to be called to the property so her husband’s ashes could be retrieved. Gabriela Lake, a mother-of-three who had been renting a house in Skibbereen, west Cork for four years, said the eviction has caused her family severe stress and anxiety. Despite being unlawfully evicted more than six months ago, and taking a successful case with the rental watchdog, Ms Lake has still not been able to get some of her belongings back, including sentimental items from her late husband, who passed away suddenly in 2019 on their 30th wedding anniversary. Valuable clothes, iPads and jewellery were also damaged. Her former landlord Colin O’Sullivan has refused access to the property on a number of occasions since the eviction.

Gardaí concerned for wellbeing of 40-year-old woman missing from Dublin
Gardaí are appealing to the public for assistance in tracing the whereabouts of 40-year-old Ganna Voroenko, who is missing from Tallaght, Dublin 24. Ganna was last seen there at around 10.15pm on Saturday, 22 April. She is described as being 5’7” in height with a slim build, brown hair and brown eyes. Gardaí are concerned for her wellbeing.
