Create Your Own Fern Crown

Create Your Own Fern Crown

We’ve been feeling inspired since checking out Whitney Port’s super fun Palm Springs wedding.

While we are completely smitten with her stunning high-low wedding dress that she co-designed with Ashis Studios, we could help but fall hard for?her fern hair accent, it was simple but looks beautifully tropical and simply reflected the beautiful surrounds.

And then we realised it looked quite familiar, probably because we recently featured a DIY fern crown in IMAGE Brides! The folksy feel of the shape and soft foliage gives this bridal accessory subtle earthy vibes, ideal for an outdoor or casual wedding.

Here is our’step-by-step guide to creating a headpiece using garden foliage like ferns and bay leave. Pick up IMAGE Brides on shelves now for more tips and DIY daydreams.

The Fern Crown

WHAT YOU?LL NEED

Stub wire (8- or 10-gauge)

Floral tape

Mature fern cuttings

Scissors

1 Cut mature fern leaves from plant (soft, new leaves will not last as well) and trim into suitably sized cuttings

2 Trim stub wire to fit around the full head, then wrap it in floral tape

3 Using floral tape, attach cuttings to wrapped stub wire base, layering up as naturally as you can (make sure you work evenly, not leaving gaps or creating too much bulk)

step 1

4 Once the wire has been filled, twist both ends together and secure with enough floral tape, so that it’s not scratchy

5 If you are preparing a day in advance, store your crown in the fridge inside a plastic bag

6 Secure onto head, using hairpins behind the ear and at the nape.

step 2 2

And viola! An elegant and delicate headpiece to give your bridal look that earthy, natural feel.
