An expert 'life juggler', Tara O'Farrell is a working mum of two, splitting her time between make-up artistry and content creation. When she does find a precious moment for skincare, she looks for products with ingredients that promise results.

“First and foremost, I’m a mam of two gorgeous boys, Gene and Jools, and family always comes first for me. I’m also a make-up artist and I create content for brands.”

Tara O’Farrell has many balls in the air, but it hasn’t kept her from finding balance. When she has a second to spare, she enjoys indulging in a restorative skincare routine.

As an experienced beauty professional, Tara shares her top tips for managing your skin, from the skincare rules she lives by to her go-to products from No7’s new Future Renew range.

What inspired you to pursue your creative passion?

Everything started really organically for me. I loved make-up from a young age; I had acne and make-up was like my armour. I worked on different make-up counters and loved making people feel good. It is such a rewarding job.

I started to share tips and product recommendations online; I don’t even think I had ever heard of the word influencer at that stage. My online following grew really fast and every day I was answering constant messages with beauty questions – it all really grew from there.

As an expert ‘life juggler’, what does a typical workday look like?

My day starts very early, getting woken up by the boys, and we all get ready for the day.

A couple of days in the week I film content so that could be either at home or at a location. I’m sure looking in, it seems easy but it can take ages and there can be a lot of back and forth with edits etc. Since events are back up and running, I would usually have a few of these in the week, with brands I work with and have a relationship with. Some weeks I have a photo shoot – I could be behind the camera as a make-up artist or I could be in front of the camera depending on the shoot.

I try to get out in the fresh air with the boys to a playground and I love making them dinner and eating with them and Daniel. We usually read a book or watch a movie before bed and that’s when I come back downstairs and have a little bit of me-time and watch a programme. I usually do my admin after the boys’ bedtime too and very rarely would be in bed before 12am.

As an MUA, skincare is such an important part of make-up prep. What are some vital skincare rules you live by?
  • Prep is key to good make-up; you can use the best foundation in the world but if the prep isn’t right you won’t get the best result.
  • Regular exfoliation to slough away dead skin cells is really important.
  • SPF is the most important thing to apply daily for anti-ageing.
  • Hydration is key for a great result when it comes to make-up, so an ingredient like hyaluronic acid is going to plump up the skin immediately.

What is one skincare regret that you’ve had?

I only started wearing SPF daily a few years ago. I really regret that as I have some skin damage as a result. I literally used to only wear it when I was on holidays and wouldn’t even think of using it in Ireland, how wrong was I!

Why would you recommend the new No7 Future Renew Damage Reversal collection? What effects does it have on skin damage?

So much scientific study goes into everything No7 does but this range, in particular, has a massive 15 years of research behind it. It features a world-first peptide technology which promises to reverse visible signs of skin damage. No7 has such a cult following and the results do speak for themselves.

What is your favourite product from the range?

I love a good serum and the Future Renew Damage Reversal Serum contains the highest concentration of the peptide blend as well as some of my absolute favourite skincare ingredients: vitamin C, niacinamide and hyaluronic acid.

When do you feel most beautiful?

As I suffered from acne and it really affected my confidence for that period of time and I still never take for granted a ‘good skin’ day, so on days when I wake up and my skin is looking good I definitely feel my most beautiful.
