Jet, Set Go: Travel Secrets From Maoliosa Murray, Founder Of Maoliosa

Frequent flyers are full of smart ideas on how to travel, visit and do business abroad in style. In the first of our three-part series, fashion-savvy businesswomen and Maoliosa Murray, founder of interior design consultancy and boutique Maoliosa, reveals her insider secrets. She frequently travels to liaise with the luxury brands stocked in her store. This year, she has trips planned to the UK, Porto, LA and New York.

TRAVELLING SMART

I always take Mandarina Duck luggage – a Cloud Cabin trolley case for short flights, and a Tank case for long haul. I love the simplicity of design and materials. They’re lightweight, but they have generous packing room with handy individual compartments.

DRESSING THE PART

When packing for work trips, I plan each day and evening, putting together outfits, accessories and shoes. I fold items between tissue paper to prevent them from creasing, and I use dry cleaning plastic covers to roll up dresses and jackets. Whether travelling ?for work or pleasure, leather leggings by Daryl K (a New York-based designer) are essential. I wear them with a silk tank top (Joseph and Theory are my go-to brands) and a blazer or cashmere sweater. The cut is amazing and they have good stretch for comfort. I recently discovered a new sports-luxe label called Callens, which offers wellcut tailoring perfect for travelling in. I always wear either ballet pumps or Converse on the plane, then change into heels when I reach my destination. Regardless of where I’m going and why, I like to feel comfortable. J Brand jeans are a staple, and men’s-style shirts in classic navy and black. I never travel without my gold spider necklace – it’s my talisman – and I always wear a cuff; a chocolate leather Louis Vuitton cuff for day, and a gold cut-out cuff, given to me by my sister, for evening. I pack a classic black Prada clutch and a grey python skin, as well as my Ahilya navy cashmere scarf with black leather fringing.

MAKE-UP MASTERCLASS

I never wear make-up when travelling, just moisturiser, which I top up during a flight and when I land. I use Olay serum with an SPF 20. In my carry-on, I’ll have an Evian Atomizer, Charlotte Tilbury Wonderglow Foundation and Concealer, Chanel bronzer and lipstick, Clarins SPF 50 and Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish with muslin cloths for a deep clean.

ON-THE-GO GADGETS

I always have my iPad with me when I travel as well as a copy of Architectural Digest. I’m a magazine fiend. I have a library of Vogue? editions dating back more than 20 years, so I always pick up a copy in whatever country I visit.
