Amy Poehler’s #SmartGirlsAsk Is Just What We Need

Amy Poehler attends the 67th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards at Microsoft Theater on September 20, 2015 in Los Angeles, California.

Fashion will always have its place on the red carpet, and we can hardly imagine a time when an actress won’t be quizzed on her favourite designer or who she’s wearing from head to toe, but it shouldn’t be the only narrative when some of the most talented people in the world gather for a celebration. As fashion enthusiasts, we do love to hear about the stars’ sartorial choices, however, having clearly achieved so much, isn’t there smarter, more pressing questions we’d like to ask as well? Wouldn’t you prefer to hear of your favourite star’s best life advice instead of the designer behind her underpants?

Well, that’s exactly where comedian and all round legend Amy Poehler’s coming from. Her Smart Girls organisation teamed up with Twitter to start a different red carpet conversation at last night’s Emmys, #SmartGirlsAsk, and it went down a treat with women all over the world. As the hashtag suggests, this allows fans to ask questions that are a little more stimulating than the average designer credit chat. Proving that it’s time for a change in terms of the standard line of questioning, incredible women from all disciplines got involved last night. From Hillary Clinton to one of TV’s most powerful women, Shonda Rhimes, we’ve been inspired to go beyond the norm.

Here you’ll find some of the best #SmartGirlsAsk tweets from last night’s star-studded event.
