3 Comforting Dublin Dishes to Stave Off The Trumpocalypse

In unsettling times there is nothing like comfort food to, well, comfort a bedraggled soul. Here are three of comfort food dishes in three cosy Dublin rooms. Eoin Higgins huddles in.

1. A grand Fish Pie at Matt the Thresher (mattthethresher.ie)

Combining a lovely selection of fresh and smoked fish, a deliciously creamy dill sauce, smoked gubbeen mash and a mixed baby leaf salad, this fish pie is certainly something to curl up beside. Matt’s provide a wide range of some of the freshest fish available, not only from the local Dublin harbours but from harbours around our island. And don’t forget to warm yourself by the roaring fire!

2. A warming pair of Crispy Potato Cakes at Pickle (picklerestaurant.com)
Upon entering Pickle on Camden Street, the first thing you will probably notice is the layered aromas wafting through the cosily lit room … clove, cinnamon, fennel, cardamom prep the senses for the comforting fare to come. The crispy potato cakes filled with green peas, cumin and tamarind chutney are at once stimulating and comforting.

3. A classic Cheese Toastie at Bowe’s (bowespub.com)

In a world gone mad, there are few things as consistent, or as comforting, as a gooey, crunchy toasted cheese sandwich in a cosy pub accompanied by a pint. And there aren’t that many pubs who do it as well as Bowe’s on Fleet Street. Slather on your condiment(s) of choice, sit back, breathe in the atmosphere, dig in and swig down with one of the world’s best stouts in the best city in the world for it.
