3 Of The Best Places For Afternoon Tea This Weekend

It’s Afternoon Tea Week (yep, news to us too) and if ever there was an excuse to indulge in a luxurious treat covered with jam and cream, (fancy) tea with friends or the whole nine yards in way of celebration, this weekend is that time. Here’s our pick of only some of the cr’me de la cr’me spots for an afternoon tea outing with a difference:

Wonderland Afternoon Tea, The Shelbourne

The Shelbourne have taken some of the iconic images from the Alice books and movies and transformed them into an elegant and entertaining ?Wonderland Afternoon Tea? in celebration of the recently released Alice Through The Looking Glass. Alongside the essential elements of a traditional afternoon tea – the selection of impeccably dainty sandwiches, homemade buttermilk scones with clotted cream and jams, all accompanied by a tea of choice – the menu also includes an edible pocket watch decorated with salted caramel macaroon, it fits neatly with the other Alice-themed sweet treats such as a Mushroom Mess, a blend of lemon curd, cr’me chantilly, mixed berry compote and meringue, or a Queen of Hearts, which is a vanilla yoghurt mousse with a raspberry and passion fruit centre.

Art Tea, The Merrion Hotel

Afternoon tea at the five-star hotel is a step away from the traditional; here, they serve ‘art-tea.’ Those wishing to indulge their more creative sides will be inspired with sweet creations inspired by J.B Yeats, William Scott and Louis Le Brocquy, among many others as you are served tasty tidbits that look too good to eat, but we imagine, you’ll manage.

A Most Peculiar Afternoon Tea, The Westin

The Westin also serve a traditional afternoon tea, but the ‘Peculiar’ option is favoured by many. Likely this is because, in the place of tea, one is served a’most refreshing and Victorian Mojito cocktail. Keeping with its peculiarity is the Afternoon Tea three-tiered foodie selection. Instead of sandwiches, you can snack on confit of pork cheek, banana and walnut bread with cinnamon and honey butter replace the traditional scones and pastries consist of popping candy and salted caramel surprises.
