3 Beautiful Bank Holiday Brunches

3 Beautiful Bank Holiday Brunches

Eoin Higgins is sunny side up.

1. Counter Culture

menu-img-2

Ronan Ryan has good pedigree: Town Bar & Grill, Pizza y Porchetta, The Mermaid (RIP), and so on. Hence, it was with piqued curiosity we took a peak at his latest opus at the Powerscourt Townhouse Centre. Counter Culture, co-founded with his equally prolific wife, Pamela Flood, prides itself on (buzzword alert!) healthful food, executed with love and a confident understanding of flavour. For brunch, try the Baked Stuffed Avocado with Quinoa, Goats Cheese, Tomatoes and Sweet Potato Fries … good never tasted so bad … in a good way.

2. Vice

Housed in the very cool Wigwam on Abbey Street, Vice is primarily a specialty coffee-focused joint with a nice sideline in extravagantly lush toasties. Their take on the humble cheese ?n? hang is magnificent. As are the doughnuts on offer – supplied by the devilish Dublin Doughnut Co – which should really be made illegal, soon, especially the key lime one. Failing that, you may want to pop in to nearby Arnotts for some elasticated pants shopping afterwards, or a snooze in the furniture department.

3. Meet Me in the Morning

More coffee nous and tasty victuals at this Wi-Fi free (not free Wi-Fi) caff in Dublin 8. ?I wanted this caf? to be a social place, not a place for laptops.? says owner Brian O?Keefe, and who can blame him: Bank Holiday bants ftw. The brains behind the gorgeous menu is none other than the multi-talented Fiona Hallinan, she of The Hare pop-up fame and many other brilliant projects, food and otherwise. We love the Puy lentil and Herb Salad, with Fennel, Rainbow Carrot, Avocado and Lemony Basil Yoghurt. That’s right, lemony. PS, only open Tuesday-Saturday at the minute.
