Sneak Peak: The New IKEA/Hay Collaboration Is Almost Here

We’ve?been happily obsessing over their 2018 Catalogue, and now for some more good news: this October, IKEA launches their latest, much-anticipated collaboration, done with the Danish design company HAY. The collection includes a wide variety of products, from larger pieces such as sofas and coffee tables all the way to smaller accessories like an updated version of the iconic blue IKEA bag. By combining materials, colours and production techniques, YPPERLIG is a collection of basics adapted to modern needs and wants.? It’s all about going back to strong basics in a contemporary way and all for that famous low-budget price point.

Sometimes, what looks simple is rather difficult to achieve. Like with the YPPERLIG sofa bed (?595). The team wanted a product that offered more than good looks – as in a really great night’s sleep. However, getting the right construction and stability was a real challenge. They solved this by using a spring mattress as the seat. The result is a well-designed sofa that offers around-the-clock comfort that looks as great as it feels.

Plank tables have always been a big part of Scandinavian furniture tradition, so HAY wanted to create a modern take on it. The outcome is a stable, white stained ash veneer table (?200) with a clean and natural look that still adds a warm element to your surroundings.

Considering that the IKEA bag (?1.75) is one of the most recognised IKEA products in the world, this has been given a re-work while still honouring the original.? The bag comes in three different colours, and the team also made a version that’s extra durable (very much essential in Irish weather!) due to the nylon strap going all the way around the bottom of the bag.

And not forgetting the finer details, these YPPERLIG mirrors (?19) are made of metal and come in three different sizes and colours, making them ideal for all kinds of spaces around the home. They also have the convenient feature of a little shelf, perfect for all those little knick-knacks that seem to fill up our homes.

Textiles are a big part of the YPPERLIG collection. Most of the cushion covers (?5) have different patterns on each side, making them extra playful and versatile, and are an affordable way to add personality and softness to a room.

The full YIPPERLIG collection in collaboration with HAY will be in stock in Irish IKEA stores from early October. See some of its standout pieces in our gallery above.?
