Pop Into the Best of Ireland’s Christmas Pop-Ups

Pop Into the Best of Ireland’s Christmas Pop-Ups

Four of the best festive interior pop-ups appearing all over the country this Christmas…

The current?trend of short-term sales spaces known as pop-ups, or flash retailing, is a welcome approach to Christmas shopping. Rather than checking off the same high-street stores, mentally churning over our list of presents rehashed from last year; pop-ups, specifically in the field of interiors, usually sell pieces that demonstrate?an impressive level of design and affordability – both to win us over and also to set them on their way to becoming?an established brand. And because pop-ups are temporary, their ‘space? has to be eye-catching, featuring arresting’displays, to have a fighting?chance of captivating our already fraught attention span.

Here?are some of our favourite, stop-you-in-your-tracks festive homewares pop-ups…

CA Design, Cork City
From December 3rd, Dublin-based CA Design will be taking over the very striking and historic Old Thompson Bakery on 53 MacCurtain street in Cork City for six weeks. You can expect to see many of their distinctive high-end, mid-20th-century design classics from the era of Charles and Ray Eames, Mies van der Rohe et al, as well as their new collection of Cat and Dog lamps – a splash of colour and fun.

April and the Bear, Dublin 2
We’re already confirmed?fans of April and the Bear, so we’re in thrall to?Siobhan Lam’s’recently opened pop-up, Our Christmas Bear Bazaar, upstairs at 6 Castlemarket in Dublin 2. Open until Christmas Eve, the shop is packed with?new arrivals such as cool retro lights and some gorgeous gift ideas. We love her?Scandi-chic festive d?cor – lovely pieces to spruce up our Christmas decorations.

The Cliff, Waterford City
After the success of its inaugural pop-up last year in Waterford City, The Cliff has reopened, again in 22 George’s Court, where it will remain right through to January 1st. We love the eclectic collection of?pieces with beautiful paintings by Patrick Cahill, lovely La Bougie candles, 31 Chapel Lane’s pure linen and tweeds, and some of Alessi’s well-known fun kitchenware? it’s a one-stop shop.

Makers & Brothers, Blackrock, Co. Dublin
If we have to do Christmas shopping in heaven, it might be a little bit like Makers &?Brothers At Home, open every weekend until Christmas Eve. Jonathan and Mark Legge?have converted their Georgian family pile in South Dublin?into a haven of lit fires, tactile furnishings, and beautifully curated and placed (as opposed to stacked) M&B artisan pieces. There’ll be warming drinks and super seasonal food on offer from Bibi’s, too. Get the?full festive low-down of what’s on offer this year.
