Everybody loves Ikea, especially us. And with carefully considered new?collaborations with designers like Ilse Crawford, their output has never been’smarter or more stylish. But the current gr? for all things bespoke extends even into the world of the flatpack…

The concept of customising Ikea furniture is nothing new. After entering the mainstream around the mid-2000s, the idea quickly developed into a dedicated online IkeaHackers community?where the best ‘Ikea hacks’ could be shared. After an initial panic, Ikea have come to embrace the concept of hacking. They were even inspired to launch their own research hub in Copenhagen in 2015 called Space 10.?Here, the aforementioned collaborations with contemporary artists and designers came?to life.

At the same time, the concept of the Ikea hack was maturing. Today’s Ikea hacks are almost astonishingly stylish. Our radiant?current issue?features the brilliant?Superfront, a Stockholm-based outfit who specialise in creating sleek custom fronts, handles, legs and sides to fit Ikea cabinets. And designers and bloggers are still coming up with their own ways to make their Ikea furniture look shockingly high-end…

Jess Blazejewski?of?Style Me Pretty Living?created this beautiful DIY bench using an Ikea coffee table, a staple gun, some cut foam, blush coloured velvet fabric, gold spray paint and little else.
