IKEA Launches Wireless Charging Furniture

IKEA Launches Wireless Charging Furniture

IKEA Charging Furniture

Swedish meatball connoisseurs IKEA, who also do furniture apparently, have just announced the introduction of some unbelievable revolutionary technology. Wireless charging furniture! Finally, we hear you say, tell us about it. We can’t even begin to count how many times we’ve tripped over our phone charger wires at home in the past.

The new range is part of a long-term commitment called Home Smart and promises to make mobile phone charging more accessible and more discreet. The range features products with integrated charging pads for every room in the house, including floor, table and work lamps, two bedside tables, and a selection of charging pads to add to any office space.

The furniture is a product of IKEA’s central design hub at their Global HQ in ?lmhult, Sweden, and is designed to blend seamlessly into every space in the home. The lack of cables helps keep rooms tidy and saves space whilst hiding ports in plain sight, meaning chargers will never be lost again.

Jeanette Skjelmose, IKEA Business Area Manager Lighting and Wireless charging said:

?Through research and home visits, we know that people hate cable mess. They worry about not finding the charger and running out of power. Our new innovative solutions, which integrate wireless charging into home furnishings, will make life at home simpler.?

Unfortunately, not all phones support wireless technology but in a bid to solve that problem, IKEA will also sell a selection of wireless charging covers for iPhone 4, 5/5S, 6 and Samsung Galaxy S3, S4 and S5. Every product also comes with a USB outlet for charging additional devices.

The wireless charing range will be available in IKEA from mid-April 2015.
