Hedgeroe Home’s Rebecca Roe: Tips For Accessorising Your Home

Rebecca Roe of Hedgeroe?Home knows all about beautiful design and all those little details that can really complete a room. Here, she shares her advice on how best to accessorise your home.?

Whether you have finally finished your renovation or you simply want to give a space a lift, introducing soft furnishings is a simple way to immediately dress a room. From cushions and throws to curtains and lampshades, there’s countless ways to add low-risk colour and interest in a room. Before you begin shopping, I would advise getting some inspiration on what you like and don’t like; you may already have a theme or style in mind for your room. And if not, don’t worry; magazines and websites like Houzz and Pinterest have plenty!

Don’t be afraid of texture or colour.

Once you know what you like you can begin to build up the textures in what I call “layering a room”. For living rooms, what’s most important to me is making it feel cosy and inviting. Don’t be afraid to mix colours and patterns, and if in doubt, look to collections that have designed to work together, like our new Hedgeroe Home collection of ethnic-inspired cushions.

Tip: Getting your sofa recovered can be a wonderful way to get a pop of colour and add new life to an existing piece.

In this scheme below, we wanted to create a modern take on art deco with dark bespoke cabinetry, large marble fireplace and a beautifully bright and fun green velvet sofa. We accessorised and broke up the green sofa by adding these wonderful new cushions from our collection, all handmade, block printed and embroidered.

We upholstered the back of our Enzo Sofa with William Yeoward fabric and studs, pairing it with olive green velvet and bold patterned handmade woollen chain stitched cushions.

Remember, it’s all about those extra details.

Adding a rug is another good way to introduce some colour and pattern, rugs also have a lovely way of bringing a room together. We wanted some drama in this scheme and so chose this stunning blue William Yeoward silk wool mix rug, which works wonderfully in this modern setting. For an extra lift, we added our mustard mesh cushion to the chair.

Adding interest in the way of lamps and bright shades in bedrooms and living rooms can help build a scheme. In the below scheme we had a’stylish headboard made in a bold pattern, as the rest of the room was delicately wallpapered in silk.

Before adding these beautiful coral lamps for texture and glamour, while further colour was added in the form of these olive geometric and dusty pink velvet cushions also from Hegeroe?Home.

Think outside the box.

Soft furnishings are not necessarily restricted to living rooms and bedrooms, as we have shown in this dining room where blues and layering different woods was our theme for this Hamptons-inspired look. Having white shutters and curtains added interest and height, we love to have both curtains and shutters where possible. We also had our beautiful celandine dining chairs recovered with a delicate blue fabric to work better with the blue William Yeoward curtains. Again, in the scheme below, you can see how mixing patterns and even different shades of the same colour works.

Ultimately, my advice is not to be afraid to mix it up, whether your home is new or old, balance is important. Our homes are an intimate part of who we are, designing it is a wonderful way to express yourself, it takes time to figure out your likes and dislikes, but its all part of growing and creating your own unique style.
