Heal’s London Launches Month-Long Design Ireland Initiative

Following the success of ID2015, luxury British retailer Heal’s has partnered with the Design & Crafts Council of Ireland to present a capsule of modern Irish furniture, lighting, ceramics, textiles, glass and gifts…

In our January-February issue, we wrote about how the work of our native artists and craftspeople has captured the imagination of the international design sphere: a transition that is now being reflected in the broader retail market. This week, Heal’s London launched the largest retail presentation of Irish made design in London in decades.

The Design & Crafts Council of Ireland has worked closely with Heal’s to curate a presentation of work by 20 of Ireland’s leading designers and makers across the disciplines of furniture, lighting, ceramics, textiles glass and gifts to coincide with Saint Patrick’s Day celebrations on March 17.

Featured designers and makers include BTU Studio glassblowers (pictured at the top of this post), Ceadogán rug makers, Superfolk, Adam Frew ceramics, Mullan Lighting, Hennesy & Byrne tableware and many more.

Karen Hennessy, the DCCoI’s chief executive, says, “We are honoured to be collaborating with Heal’s in presenting the Design Ireland programme. We have seen a surge in recognition and appreciation internationally for the quality, diversity and provenance of work emerging from Ireland and are very excited by this opportunity to showcase contemporary Irish design and craft to discerning audiences in London during March 2016.”
