5 Great New Irish Craft Buys from BT Create

Brown Thomas have really embraced Irish craft on the interiors floor this year for their annual BT Create, to coincide with ID2015. With a liberal sprinkling of Irish design heavyweights across the store, and the work of furniture maker Joseph Walsh commanding one of the window displays, craft is well and truly celebrated in Dublin’s top retailer so catch it while you can. Scroll down to see our top picks from the interiors floor and read more about the craftspeople behind them…

Foxford
One of the last working mills in Ireland, Foxford, in Co. Mayo, was founded in 1892 and remains one of the most popular Irish craft brands. Don’t assume these designs will be purely traditional, though: the collections vary and incorporate the latest styles and fashions, thanks to the help of designer Helen McAlinden, and are now stocked in the trendy London department store Liberty. foxfordwoollenmills.com

BT CREATE Foxford Classic Throws €95 Luxury Throws (cashmere blend) €130

O’Riain Pottery
Established in 1998, this Sligo pottery draws inspiration from the rural landscape and its wild inhabitants. These charming hand-decorated bowls caught our eye for their minimal form and adorable motifs. siopaancarn.com/oriainpottery

Shane Holland Design
Now in its 25th year, the award-winning Shane Holland Design –founded in Dublin but now based in the beautiful Boyne Valley region of Co. Meath – has a growing international reputation. This Wilde cage light was shown at the London Design Festival last year, as part of the ‘Weathering’ show of Irish design, and at Maison et Object in Paris. shanehollanddesign.com

Tricia Harris Designs
Made by Dublin-based furniture designer Tricia Harris, this dovetail box in solid cherry with a walnut veneer has a sweetly intricate mechanism, pulling the internal shelf containing the light fitting up on metal chains as you open the lid. We love the whimsical design and Nordic aesthetic of this grown-up Jack-in-the-box. triciaharrisdesigns.com

BTU Studio
The brainchild of Northern duo Scott Benefield and Andrea Spencer, this independent glassblowing studio is named after the acronym for the measure of energy (British thermal unit). The swirling stripes of these vases are mesmerising and the tones and form elegant and arresting. btustudio.com
