Five Blogging Superstars

From zero (hits) to hero, just like that…

You’ve heard about our Blog Awards by now,’so for those of you curious about the world of blogging and where it can take you we decided to profile five high-profile bloggers who started posting on the interwebs only to find their lives forever changed. From precocious teenagers to bored office workers, blogging is a world open to everyone where suddenly finding yourself profiled in the pages of Vogue is an actual possiblity.

The Man Repeller

Journalist Leandra Medine will forever be known as The Man Repeller, ?and it is a label she will never want to shake. Medine had been blogging before she launched her fashion-focused blog The Man Repeller in 2010, but this second and more refined effort was the one that would make her an internet sensation. Man Repelling is Medine’s philosophy of dressing to please yourself rather than pleasing men and her slack-wearing ways has spawned thousands of followers. Medine has featured in Adweek, Forbes, Fast Company and a host of fashion magazines, her name a by-word for knowing and cutting edge fashion. So embraced is Medine’s way of dressing that when she announced her engagement in 2011 there was even a backlash and worry that her finac?ed state would change her writing. It didn’t and she released her first book, Man?Repeller: Seeking Love. Finding Overalls,?late last year.

Tavi Gevinson, Ultimate Rookie

Who’s Tavi? Oh, she just started a blog called Style Rookie aged twelve back in 2008, caught the attention of Anna Wintour and attended Paris and New York Fashion Week as a tweenager. By the time she was fifteen she was bored of fashion and launched an online magazine aimed at young women called Rookie that you may read every day and be totally in love with. When she isn’t doing home work and attending high school she interviews Jon Hamm and Lena Dunham. In her free time she does a spot of acting in Hollywood and on Broadway. What kind of stuff did you achieve before you were eighteen?

Catherine Sanderson, La Petite Anglaise

Catherine Sanderson was a British gal living in early-noughties Paris when she started blogging under the pseudonym Petite Anglaise. She wrote about her daily life in the city of lights entirely anonymously until mid-2006 when her employers clocked she had a blog wherein she had written about work incidents. When the press unmasked her shortly after, Petie Anglaise hit all the headlines. This meant a lot of bad press for Dixon Wilson Chartered Accountants and a book deal as well as an employment tribunal victory for Sanderson.

Susie Bubble

Susie Lau started her fashion blog Style Bubble in 2006 while working at a digital agency. Within four years she was getting over 300,000 unique visitors a month and getting invited to fashion week shows. Susie Bubble was effectively the first fashion blogging superstar. She left her job at Dazed and Confused in 2010 to blog fulltime and her star has gone from strength to strength ever since. She writes every day at stylebubble.co.uk

The Blonde Salad

Chiara Ferragni is the face of Italian blogging. The Blonde Salad started typing into the internet ether in 2009 and her blog hosts 12 million page views a month. What marks the irrepressible Chiara out as one to always watch is her varied interests. Chiara mixes up fashion, beauty, lifestyle, photography and travelling on a daily basis – hence the name ‘salad’ – and she manages to do so while sattending law school in Milan. She must have a helluva To Do list? Due to her incredible success, and twelve million pageviews a month, Chiara has enjoyed partnerships with Dior and designed shoes with Mango. Not bad at all.
