DRACULA THERAPY

I’m a bit of a wuss when it comes to extreme beauty treatments – mainly because I’ve tried so many that have left me bruised and fragile. And while I’d normally suck up the pain, I drew the line yesterday when I was invited to a cosmetic clinic in Limerick to road test Platelet Injection Therapy. A new breakthrough in anti-ageing, it involves taking a blood sample, removing the platelets via a centrifuge system and re-injecting these platelets into your face at up to thirty different needle sites. Ouch! It takes about an hour to complete, bruising is inevitable for up to a week and the promised results of a plumper, more youthful, fresher complexion are not visible for a few more weeks. To add insult to injury, the supposed rejuvenating effect only has a life span of six months – not a good return for all that effort. It may be a better alternative to synthetic fillers, but it’s all a bit too Twilight for my liking – perhaps they should pitch this one to vain vampires instead.
