Roberta Einer; Emerging Designer To Watch Following London Fashion Week

As fashion month draws to a close, we have witnessed amazing creations from designers across all four fashion capitals; London, New York, Milan and the ongoing shows in Paris at the moment, and as always,?fashion week sees big things from big designers such as Givenchy and Dolce & Gabbana, but what about the new kids on the block? There was some amazing new talent at London Fashion Week and we have had the pleasure of speaking with one newcomer from this talented bunch of emerging designers; Roberta Einer.

Roberta only graduated from Westminster University in 2015, subsequently launched her own label a few months later and had an Autumn/Winter 2016 presentation during London Fashion Week. She has already been noted as the 2016 one-to-watch by Topshop’s New Generation (NEWGEN) Scheme and has an impressive r’sum? of experience to her name (think Balmain and McQueen)? Here, Roberta spills on her plans for the coming year and the inspiration behind her stunning creations.

What sparked your interest in fashion?

I knew when I was younger that I would need to do something creative, and that just happened to be creating clothing. For me, it isn’t really about making clothing, but working conceptually. I started out entering competitions for fun, and after the taste of something as fun as fashion, you really can’t go back to an everyday life. I don’t think of it as work really, for me, it’s more like a lifestyle choice.

Your work consists of many different textures and colours such as bubblegum pinks and blues, what inspired these textures and colours?

Colours, shape and textiles go hand in hand with my inspiration of the season. My pre-collection and first season collection spoke the same story of east meets west and the bubblegum pink and baby blues incorporated well in the garments. They were all such beautiful and fun pieces to work with.

Like many other designers, I feel the need to push my limits further and for AW16 I’m doing something widely different. It’s exciting trying both sides of the scale and I feel like I get to showcase a new strong collection that shows new techniques, and thoughts as well as still keeping it in the same aesthetics of the brand. Research and early stage development takes me to a new place every time.

You’ve interned with many major designers such as Balmain and Alexander McQueen, how has working for these designers impacted your work?

I have learned the excitement of fashion from Balmain and just being in Paris taught me a lot about the joy of maximalism as a way of expression, and experimenting with embroidery and textiles. It was such an exciting team to work with and that is reflected in the work that they present.

Working at McQueen, Mary Katrantzou ansd Roksanda, I saw the more technical side of the industry, which is as essential as being creative.

What are your goals as a designer for the coming year?

As of this year I have been elected as the one to watch in the NewGen scheme, for which I am truly honoured.

I feel very lucky to be selected as part of this amazing group so I will work very hard to show that I am worth it. Also, it’s important to me to continuously grow as a creative, and develop new and exciting collections and collaborations for the new seasons to come as well as make my designs available to buy worldwide.

How would you describe your personal style?

My everyday look is very comfortable, lots of traditional basics like good jersey, denim, trainers, leather and wool. I work pretty much? 24 hours of the day so it feels necessary for me to stay comfortable and at ease in my garments. But, like most other girls, I like dressing up for special occasions or events, and nonetheless wear red lipstick and some killer heels.
