How To Look Like A French Gamine

The perfect Breton stripe top is that wardrobe staple we’re sick of chasing after. The stripes aren’t wide enough. That shade of navy just doesn’t work with this complexion. We said top, not tent. Simplicity is a lot more complicated than a Google search.
The Breton has quite the legacy, making its widespread debut in 1858 as the uniform for all the French navvies in Brittany. Traditionally twenty-one stripes ran up and down the wool or cotton, each symbolising Napoleon’s victories. Throw that fact back the next time someone accuses fashion of frivolity.
Coco Chanel divined inspiration from the coastal populace for one of her collections and thus a timeless trend was born. It took a few beatniks and making love instead of war to bring the shirt to the movie going masses with Fench ingenues Brigette Bardot and Jean Seberg convincing audiences to turn nautical.
As we anticipate summer and suitable wardrobes we can’t help but want to go French and chic up casual with the perfect stripes, which brings us to Petit Bateau and this little winsome number above. Yacht across the Channel this afternoon?
