London Fashion Week kicked off yesterday and we’ve already been treated to a bonanza of shows from the likes of our own Orla Kiely, to Jasper Conran, Mother of Pearl,?Jean-Pierre Braganza, Faustine Steinmetz and?Paul Costelloe?all featuring among others. The catwalks were a sunny sight to behold as designers showcased their SS16 collections in all their glory.

Bright colour palettes, layers of texturing and floating chiffon all featured prominently and these were the catwalks that particularly caught our eye:

Kiely is known for?her love of pattern, colour, texture and rhythm, which as components?play and work together in her collections. This was never more evident than in her SS16 collection, which featured pretty pastels, brightly pattered garments, colourful textures and delicate chiffon against a cheerful, sunny runway.

Conran’s show was a sea of green as his SS16 collection featured graphic leaf prints and stripes. These eventually gave way to more whimsical abstract nature prints – all in green and white. Shapes were clean and classic, after which printed chiffon layered on printed chiffon?added to the?feeling of seaweed floating in water as models walked on an algae-covered mirrored lake inspired catwalk.

Mother Of Pearl?

Mother of Pearl was all whimsical and romantic for SS16. It could be described as a “Victoriana-plundered collection of ruffles and pie-crust collars, night dresses, bows and frills,” according to Vogue but with a?cool and contemporary feel. Delicate colours feature heavily and models looked dreamy as they elegantly floated down the catwalk.

We have snaps from these collections and more in the gallery above and we’ll have have more divine pictures and reports from LFW here on IMAGE.ie as the weekend goes on, so keep an eye out for these.
