Keira Knightley Is Selling Her Designer Clothes For Charity

The season of goodwill has officially begun and we’ve reported on a few celebrities doing various acts of kindness, intent on helping others. Actress Keira Knightley and a host of other famous female faces are in the news for a similarly positive reason after it was revealed that they will be donating some designer pieces to aid a good cause.

Knightley has teamed up with fellow actress Emma Watson – two women with enviable wardrobes – to sell some of their stylish possessions as part of a new charity initiative. The pair has donated personal clothing and accessories to Vestiaire Collective’s partnership with Women for Women International as part of a new programme called Wardrobes For Women – which helps women in war-torn countries to rebuild their lives and gain new skills to support themselves and their families.

It’s a great idea; celebrities get an array of designer items frequently thrown at them, and save for Knightley’s recycled Chanel wedding gown, they usually get worn once only. So to give such valuable pieces to help those in need seems like a just and fair cause.

“It’s a pity when beloved clothes sit dormant in my closet, so I am thrilled to be a part of Wardrobes for Women to give these clothes a new life,” she’said. Among other things, she explained why she chose to donate a particular Prada dress: “I love the simple elegance of this silk Prada dress, I wore it to a friend’s birthday, and it made me feel like a dream, I hope whoever ends up with this item will love it as much as I have.”

Watson chose to donate her favourite pair of shoes: My So Kate Louboutin heels were my go-to for many special occasions,” Watson told Vogue. “I hope the new owner makes them a signature staple in their wardrobe and feels great every time they wear them.”

The pair joins big names such as Olivia Palermo, Caroline Issa, Lupita Nyong’o, Diane Kruger, Chlo? Sevigny, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Dree Hemmingway and Lena Dunham for the campaign, which will?run?from December 3rd to December 12th.

The sale will take place at vestiairecollective.com, and though we’re betting we won’t be able to make much of a dent in the bidding figures, having such high-profile names involved should see plenty raised for a truly fantastic cause.
