How To Wear Velvet

How To Wear Velvet

Upholstery-style fabrics are a tricky trend. It’s so easy to wind up feeling like?you’re trending granny’s old sofa rather than?Saint Laurent. Velvet has emerged as the must-wear texture for the new season, so it’s time to think about how to reimagine this fabric?as successfully as Scarlett O’Hara did (remember the curtain dress?). Here’s a few influencers to inspire you.

Wearing velvet head to toe is a brave option, but a fitted silhouette is?the key to making it work. Cuffed trouser legs and a drawstring waist add an athletic vibe to the look which helps to make this traditional fabric feel more modern.

This textured fabric feels really contemporary when paired with fresh colourways and a utilitarian material like denim. A fitted waist and elegant heels balance the fluidity of the coat nicely.

Choosing a trouser in a crop style will prevent?this fabric from overwhelming your silhouette. A plain grey sweatshirt balances the luxurious feel of the trousers, adding a nicely urban edge.

If opting for the subtlety of a velvet accessory, give it a little bit of punch by choosing a bright colourway and a bold graphic print.

Break up top to toe velvet with a delicate print. I love the rich navy hue of this two piece and its structure. Mixing this smart suit with a pair of trainers feels modern and fresh too.
