How To Get The Most From London Fashion Week (Without Leaving Your House)

How To Get The Most From London Fashion Week (Without Leaving Your House)

London Fashion Week kicks off today and if you’re having serious fashion FOMO, here’s how you can?follow the action?without leaving the house.

Over?100 designers will showcase their AW17 collections over the next five days at various venues around the bustling metropolitan city. For those of you wishing you were there, we’ve put together a list of the best and easiest ways to?keep updated on the weeks’ events. If the internet has given us anything (besides the odd headache) it’s the ability to be in several places at once.

Instagram is a tool favoured by industry insiders and is the undisputed queen of social media when it comes to fashion week. Contrary to what some people think, hashtags are your friend – so use them. They allow you to keep up with real-time events (as will Insta stories), and if you are lucky enough to be in London, it’s a good way to see who else is around too. #LFW17 and#LondonFashionWeek2017 are the official hashtags used throughout the week.

Big names to follow for reular updates are British Vogue editor-in-chief, Alexandra Shulman, international fashion insider Susie Lau (aka Susie Bubble), model of the moment Adwoa Aboah, as well as Irish designer Simone Rocha. Then there’s?High Snobiety for as much street style as your heart desires, the official IMAGE Instagram?which?IMAGE?editor Rosie McMeel will be taking over from?London on Sunday, and don’t forget to follow the official London Fashion Week Instagram either.

Right now Facebook is all about live video which means you could literally be sitting in the bath with a glass of white while watching the Topshop Unique show live this Sunday (don’t have plans? You do now). Vogue, Dazed and Confused, and Elle all have a really strong video presence on Facebook and you can almost guarantee they’ll be sitting front row at all the big shows.

Social media giant Snapchat might be old news to teens and influencers, but fashion brands have only hit the tip of the iceberg in terms of utilising the app to its full ability. Last year, British household name Burberry was the first luxury fashion brand to shoot and share its 2016 show live via Snapchat, and since then, countless other fashion houses and brands have?followed suit. ManRepellers’ Leandra Medine (@man_repeller) is a one-stop-sop digital hub for all things style, opinion and general “gassness”. Her wardrobe is the thing of dreams, too.?Eva Chen?(@theevachen212) – head of fashion at Instagram and former editor at Lucky magazine – is a social whizz and her shoe and bag collection is as good as it gets. And Bella Hadid (@Bellahadid) is always a good shout if you fancy seeing what an international model does on her down time.

It might be uncertain whether Twitter will still be around in three years’ time, but right now there are still 317 million monthly users around the world. Similar to Instagram, using the #lfw17 hashtag will take you a long way on Twitter and will let you connect directly with industry insiders, as well as keeping up with the buzz and conversation around London city. Teen Vogue‘s social media producer (and Irish gal) Michaela O’Shaughnessy (@lifeofaladybear) will keep you updated with the goings-on at?the younger sister of fashion bible Vogue, while British Vogue (@BritishVogue) should keep your interest sparked all festival-long with its quick updates and gorgeous fashion snaps.
